Alexa’s been looking forward to her beach photo session ever since I shot with her older sis a couple of years ago and we finally made it happen! She is on my Class of 2022 Influencer Team, so we’ve been able to shoot a few times already this year (and will be doing more soon). We started at this super pretty natural location in Malibu on a gorgeous day.
She was able to find most of her wardrobe from CO Boutique here in Santa Clarita and I love how these colors look against all the greens and yellows in Malibu. We did a collaboration session with CO Boutique in June and the clothing they provided was all SO gorgeous – if you have not been over there, you need to! They are in the mall too so it’s a super easy spot to get to. Tell them I sent ya 😊
One of the coolest parts of my job is that I get to see so many different personalities step in front of my camera. I know they ALL look gorgeous because Jami is seriously the best at getting them camera-ready without making them look OVER done. But most of my clients are natural California girls and I love being able to infuse their session with their own style.
Alexa’s is just perfectly laid back yet put together and she wears it all so well, don’t you think? She is so fun to photograph, by the way – that smile is just incredible.
The beach we planned to shoot at on this day was closed when we got there – but I have a great plan B; I love this little beach in Malibu – it’s never really crowded and photographs beautifully.
One thing to remember if you want your senior portraits at the beach is that we need to be somewhat flexible … you never really know what kind of weather conditions we’ll find – especially wind. Luckily on this day, it was perfect – very little wind and humidity; just a gorgeous quintessential California beach day!
Chances are, if you shoot with me at the beach, you will be in the sand and water at some point 😏 I love the backlighting here and Alexa looks stunning as the sun was setting behind her!
These dresses are so great for beach sessions and awesome for movement – something we will be doing a LOT of when you shoot with me! I rarely have you stand still – I’m not a fan of stiff posing. I want you to feel the energy and to capture that on camera. To do that, we need to MOVE – and yeah, I will do it with you lol! I know it feels weird but the images we get are worth it!

When I shoot at the beach, I am looking for as much variety as possible which can sometimes be hard because the beach is … just the beach lol! So we use both backlighting and direct sun – as well as some off-camera flash if we need to. We were able to capture all this in about 30 minutes.
I’m booked pretty solid until January, by the way – so if you are hoping to slide in for a session, I MIGHT be able to get you in … it will be tricky through so make sure you reach asap.
