Hope everyone is enjoying their long holiday weekend! I spent it shooting and editing (big surprise, huh?) 🙂
But you know what? I still feel so honored and excited to do what I do for a living … I know that sounds cliché, but it’s the truth. I’m a pretty driven, motivated person by nature, so I don’t mind working hard – but when it’s for something as fun and rewarding as this? I wouldn’t trade it for the world!
Part of what I worked on this weekend was getting this lovely lady’s senior portraits online. Adrienne is one of my 2019 #rbmodels and we shot her session in Malibu (doesn’t suck to have that as an office for the day, right?)
As always, the incredible Jami Cox as on hand to deliver the most perfect hair and makeup ... she’s really got this thing down-pat, guys lol. Eight years we have been working together!!! And I am so grateful for her!
How gorgeous is Adrienne?!!!
I mean, perfect skin … and the sweetest person EVER. (not to mention an INCREDIBLE softball player) . We had lots of fun with her and her Mom; first, at this little hiking trail I love in Malibu – and later at one of my favorite beaches.
Loved all her wardrobe choices – the colors complemented her skin tone and the environment just perfectly. I like to send out loads of info to my seniors to help get them prepped (one of the most stressful things about shooting your senior portraits is trying to figure out what to wear – so I’ve been told lol) I don’t want anyone stressing about something as fun as shooting senior pics, so I’ve got an entire guide and step by step process that I send via email (and of course, I’m always willing to meet beforehand if need be!)
LOVE the colors in this romper – especially against the greens and browns. This location is fun because although we get lots of natural surroundings, when you walk out a little further, you can see the ocean from the bluffs … have I mentioned how much I love living in SoCal??!!!!
This is probably one of my favorite shots from her session – I’m a sucker for the ocean but the colors are just so yummy! (you’d never know that we were sweating to death out there lol)
Then it was time to head to the beach – which was absolutely crowded (that’s the deal with shooting on the beach in the summer … you gotta be okay shooting in front of an audience!) Adrienne handled it like a PRO – and we got some beautiful shots on the rocks and in the water …. Malibu is just the best.
That LIGHT, right?! Love me some hazy backlighting!!
A lot of photographers tell me they find this the most challenging to shoot .. their clients want these backlit editorial looks (not a harsh OCF look) but they struggle with making this work, especially while the client is moving (which is like …. my all time favorite thing to DO). This can be tough, especially if you’re just starting out shooting senior portraits, but there are some tips and tricks to it! Shoot me an email or check out the “LEARN” page here on my site – I’ll be adding more and more blog posts about editing, shooting and photography in general in the coming months – sign up for the email list if you’re interested in finding out more!
Thanks, Adrienne and Kathy for SUCH a fun day!!!!!
Update on my calendar: I only have a handful of spots for SENIOR SESSIONS left for Fall … but I’m opening up my January – April calendar now as well (and SPRING is a wonderful time to get them done – and there is still plenty of time for announcements, etc.)
Use the form below if you want more info and I will send you the 2019 Senior Portrait Magazine! I’ve got some awesome model team shoots coming up too … so watch the blog and my insta for those!
xo, Renee
