Blogging for Photographers: Why You’re Overthinking It

Let’s talk about blogging for photographers, because this is one of the most misunderstood parts of running a creative business. So many of the photographers I coach think they either have to blog every day or not at all. They’ll say blogging is dead or that SEO is too complicated.

Here’s the truth: blogging still works, and it doesn’t have to be a full-time job. Danielle Johnson proves that in this episode, and honestly, she makes it sound… dare I say… doable.

quote card that says In a world of AI and people with increasing SEO knowledge, your brand is the one thing that makes you stand out. for a blog and podcast about blogging for photographers and features an image of a woman with long dark hair squatting and smiling at camera; she wears a white top and pink pants and the background is bright pink

SEO Doesn’t Mean Selling Your Soul to Google

Blogging for photographers often comes with a side of SEO-induced dread. Danielle gets it because she’s a creative too, and she knows how overwhelming it can feel. But she’s also proof that you don’t need the perfect platform or a thousand backlinks to see results. We talk about how to use “bare minimum blogging” to still show up, rank, and attract ideal clients. The real win is getting found by people who are already searching for what you offer.

Your Blog Should Convert, Not Just Rank

Getting on page one is great, but what happens next? Danielle dropped the reminder that too many people miss: your blog post isn’t just there to look pretty in a search result. It needs to actually convert. That means writing in your voice, showing your personality, and leading people to the next step. If blogging for photographers is just keyword stuffing and generic info, you’re missing out on connection and that’s what actually books clients.

AI Can’t Replace You (And That’s a Good Thing)

We went there. Yep, we talked about ChatGPT and the rise of AI. I love using it for idea generation, but Danielle makes a strong case for why blogging for photographers should still sound like… you. If your blog reads like every other AI-generated article out there, you’re blending in and that’s NOT going to be good in the long run. We talk about how to use tools like ChatGPT strategically without letting it erase the one thing that makes you stand out: your voice.

Start Small, Stay Consistent, and Repurpose Like a Pro

You don’t have to go from zero to expert overnight. Danielle recommends starting with one blog post a month. Just one. That’s it.

Blogging for photographers isn’t about doing it all, it’s about doing it well. And once you write that post, you can turn it into Instagram captions, email content, TikToks, and more. I talk about this inside of my minicourse REPURPOSE (only $37) and it’s how I create marketing nonstop on repeat.

Remember = your blog isn’t just marketing; it’s the foundation of everything else.
