She decided that she also wanted to shoot down on Abbot Kinney – and I’m always happy when clients choose that! As I’ve mentioned many times before, I love the vibe and energy down there – and it’s close proximity to Venice Beach. When I shoot there, I like to start at one end of the street and wind through the alleys and side streets – making our way up to the other side (all of maybe four blocks). It’s not a big area which makes it perfect for shooting because we don’t have to waste a lot of time looking for cool spots – they’re everywhere!
Peyton is so sweet and fun; totally up for anything and just a blast to shoot with – and absolutely gorgeousl!!! Those eyes, right? And I loved her choices for wardrobe – all of it just worked so well with all the backgrounds all around us. You never really know what you’re going to find around every corner; as often as I shoot there, it’s always new to me.
If you decide to shoot your senior session down on Abbot Kinney, you need to be aware of a few things:
- There are LOTS of people – always; doesn’t matter what time of year
- You will need to change in the car; putting up a sheet or tent calls a lot of attention to us (most places in LA are like this) and we need to NOT call attention to ourselves lol! LA is terrible about “commercial shooting and permits” and what not
- You’re going to walk a lot – we walk and shoot, walk and shoot; you’re going to need water and comfy shoes to walk from one spot to the next
There’s a lot more info that I send to you before your session but that’s the basics of Abbot Kinney 🙂 I want to make sure you feel 100% ready for the shoot – with zero stress!
Jami worked her magic with Peyton’s makeup and hair as usual; she had a beautiful canvas to work with though 😉
We timed her session perfectly and got the very best of the last bits of sun and the amazing sunset that day…. sometimes the stars align and it all works out! Sometimes we get down to the beach and there’s no parking and a ridiculous amount of people – which is why I always try to allow as much time as possible to get down there even though it’s literally five minutes from Abbot Kinney.
It also helps when we can shoot on a weekday … weekends tend to be insane down there (any SoCal beach is going to be this way!) But hey, we make it work! As long as you are flexible and trust me, we always get what we need and I’m never disappointed ending the day at the beach!
I’m also grateful that I had my Profoto A1X with me because I was able to get the most amazing sunset shots!
