Everyone, meet Kelsey! Yes … she does look a lot like a certain recent member of the royal family lol – she knows 🙂
We spent the day down in Los Angeles – in the Arts District – for her senior shoot. Kelsey is on my 2019 Model Team, so I have had the pleasure of shooting with her before; it’s one of the best parts of my model team experience – getting to shoot with my girls multiple times!
The color and texture of DTLA never disappoints – and even though I shoot down there a lot, it always seems to be a little different each time I’m there. Yes, I have my favorite spots – but I swear there is always something new that pops up! I’ve seen this area of LA grow and change quite a lot over the last 5 or so years of shooting down there; and the best part is that Jami and I get to eat at Umami Burger after we are done lol!
The main reason I love shooting here is that there is SO much in a small 2-3 block radius – which makes it the perfect location to shoot multiple looks, since it all looks soooo different but we don’t have to go far (and that means more time to shoot!)
And I mean …. Kelsey is gorgeous, so it’s not hard to get loads and loads of amazing shots of this girl!
Jami did a great job on keeping Kelsey looking natural – she’s the best when it comes to minimalistic makeup!
I’m a huge fan of the Colette Miller wings – there are ton of them all around Los Angeles, but these are probably my favorite – I just love the color!
Kesley is a pro at this movement thing I do with my clients – which is awesome because I’m able to create so much variety in the images! If you’re a photographer and struggling with posing or getting your clients to embrace movement in your sessions, head over to my Instagram and click the “learn” highlight. I have a few behind the scenes videos there that show how I work with mhy clients – and how we get that natural, editorial posing.
I’ve had a lot of emails and dm’s lately from photographers who are interested in finding out how I use my reflector (there is a vid on my learn highlight of that too) – but I rarely use it when I’m shooting in DTLA. I typically can use the reflected light off the buildings (another reason I love shooting there) – I’m always looking for naturally reflected surfaces 🙂
And because I like to move around quickly when I’m shooting (for variety), I would never carry any off camera flash; it’s not my thing anyway, but it would also greatly impede how quickly I shoot.
Update on my calendar: I only have a handful of spots for SENIOR SESSIONS left for NOVEMBER … but I’m opening up my January – April calendar now as well (and SPRING is a wonderful time to get them done – and there is still plenty of time for announcements, etc.)
Use the form below if you want more info and I will send you the 2019 Senior Portrait Magazine! I’ve got some awesome model team shoots coming up too … so watch the blog and my insta for those!
xo, Renee
