Finally sharing the beautiful Kaleigh today on my blog! I shot these before our trip to Europe, but omg I’ve been a tad insane since returning. I really really had to make peace with NOT editing or working while we were traveling (not that I really had time to, since we like to take ridiculous trips where NOBODY has any downtime) … but it was HARD, y’all (workaholic much?)
Sooooooo….. I forced myself to try not to kill my family just be with my family, which subsequently meant I couldn’t get these done for Kaleigh until now – and you know what? She was totally fine and super sweet about it 🙂 She’s the sweetest!
We started Kaleigh’s shoot out on a hiking trail in Malibu that I like. It has big trees and lots of beautiful backlighting (my fave) – and it’s green, which is hard to come by these days in dry California. Sometimes that desert look is awesome, but for my clients who want something green, we usually have to head out closer to the water (although I do know of a pretty little spot here in Santa Clarita that stays green year ’round).
I loved all her wardrobe choices – they show all the different sides of her personality and the colors complement her complexion perfectly (love love love the color of her hair!)
I mean, seriously. She is a natural beauty for sure and Jami just helped enhance that as usual. Jami’s philosophy on makeup is always to keep our young clients pretty natural – we sometimes move into a more dramatic look as the shoot unfolds, but we never want our clients to look like someone else …. especially not for something as important as your high school senior portrait.
We headed out to a nearby rocky beach I love to get the setting sun and I love the colors in these. The blue of the water and sky against her hair color, dress color ….. pretty awesome. You’d NEVER know that there were 84,000 people on the beach that day lol! (seriously, summer can be nuts for beach shoots, but we make it work)
And changing on the beach can be just as challenging, but Kaleigh handled it like a champ! Love this casual outfit for our last look.
We had such a fun day! Honestly, how bad could it be with this backdrop, right? Shooting at the beach will never get old – thankfully most of my clients want at least a little bit of a beachy vibe to their shoot. I always suggest ending there, since shooting at the beach for the entire session would be pretty hard (lots of people, you never know how windy it will be, changing is challenging, SAND, etc.) This way, we get a variety of images – which is always my goal. I would never want to deliver a session to a client and have the images all be the same expression, same background …. that’s just boring. And when I shoot on the beach, I want to actually SEE the water and the sky (one of my biggest pet peeves is when photographers blow the background out too much … you can’t even see where you are – which hello, is somewhere freakin’ gorgeous!!).
