People keep asking “are flower crowns still a thing?”
I see it on lots of photography boards on facebook and get messages about it on my facebook page as well.
Whether you love or hate flower crowns on a personal level, some seniors still REALLY want to have one in their session ….
I was at the Lana Del Rey concert the other night in Hollywood and counted 200 flower crowns just as we were walking IN.
They’re still in.
And here’s the thing — even if I think they look stupid (which I don’t) – if my client WANTS one, I am going to make it happen.
The first time someone asked for one, I had a friend (who happened to be a great florist) make one for me … she wanted it for a concept and wanted a quite large one. After that, my friend moved out of state and the next time someone asked me for one, I had to figure out a way to make it happen cost effectively…. let’s be honest, I’m not paying a florist $60 or more – I’d have to roll that into my session and I’m already at the high end of my market. I’ve always been a little crafty so I figured I’d just figure out how to make them! And really – they’re NOT hard.
Mine are all made with fresh flowers as opposed to silk – I like the impermanence of them and my clients feel super special. I make them while my client is getting her hair and makeup done – in front of them and the Mom….. also adds to that value and the extra “something” I like to give my clients.
A few months ago, I put a tutorial on youtube for a simple fresh flower “prop” crown for photo shoots – it’s been super popular!
